Near-total Abortion Ban Signed by North Dakota Governor
North Dakota Republican Gov. Doug Burgum signed into law one of the most restrictive abortion measures in the US, banning the procedure throughout pregnancy with exceptions for rape or incest within the first six weeks of gestation or treatment of ectopic or molar pregnancy at any stage.

Burgum signed Senate Bill 2150 prohibiting “the act of using, selling, or prescribing any instrument, medicine, drug, or any other substance, device, or means with the intent to terminate the clinically diagnosable pregnancy of a woman.”.

“This bill clarifies and refines existing state law ... and reaffirms North Dakota as a pro-life state,” the governor said. The law is designed to take effect immediately but a Supreme Court ruling previously blocked an earlier ban amid legal challenges.
