Washington State Targets Gun Purchases in New Laws
Most sales of assault-style weapons will be restricted and a waiting period and training requirement will be imposed in Washington state under new laws signed by Democratic Gov. Jay Inslee on Tuesday.

“AR-15s should not be idolized, they should be prohibited, and that’s what we’re doing here today,” the governor said in signing House Bill 1240, which bans the manufacture, importation, distribution and sale of assault-style weapons like the popular AR-15 except for military and law enforcement purposes.

Another law will enact a 10-day “waiting period and training requirement for all gun purchases” starting January 1, 2024 and “empowering consumers with the ability to sue firearm manufacturers or retailers for irresponsible conduct.”.

The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) filed a lawsuit against the state on the same day, claiming that the ban is a violation of the Second Amendment.
